Kinesio Taping

Supportive elastic taping to reduce pain and improve movement

15–20 minutes (as add-on)
Applied as needed alongside your rehab plan

Kinesio taping uses flexible, elastic therapeutic tape applied by a trained physical therapist to provide temporary support, improve body awareness, and help you move more comfortably during rehabilitation. At One Stop Rehab, taping is used as an adjunct to your individualized treatment plan—not a replacement for exercise, strength training, movement retraining, or medical evaluation.

Research on kinesiology tape is mixed and inconsistent across conditions, so it should be presented as a possible short-term support tool rather than a standalone cure.

We can help with

  • Shoulder, neck, and upper-back discomfort
  • Low-back pain
  • Knee pain, patellar support, or movement-related symptoms
  • Ankle sprains and feelings of instability
  • Muscle strains or overuse symptoms
  • Sports-related injuries
  • Posture and movement-awareness training
  • Mild swelling, when clinically appropriate
  • Support during return to exercise, work, or sport

What patients can expect

Your first visit

  • Your therapist will first evaluate your symptoms, movement, skin condition, and goals to determine whether kinesio taping is appropriate
  • The tape is applied to clean, dry skin using a specific pattern and amount of stretch based on the body area and treatment goal
  • You may wear the tape during normal daily activities, depending on your skin tolerance and your therapist’s instructions
  • Your therapist will teach you how to safely remove the tape and may provide guidance on skin preparation, activity, showering, and home use

Your treatment plan

Your plan may include:

  • Lightweight, flexible tape that allows normal movement while offering gentle sensory feedback
  • Temporary support to muscles or joints during rehabilitation
  • Taping patterns selected for your body area and treatment goal
  • Integration with strengthening, mobility work, balance training, work tasks, or sport-specific rehabilitation

The tape should not cause pain, burning, itching, numbness, or increased symptoms. If any of these occur, remove it gently and contact One Stop Rehab.

Safety and Important Information

Kinesio tape should not be placed over open wounds, active skin irritation, infection, or areas with a known adhesive allergy. Extra caution is needed with fragile skin, altered sensation, circulation concerns, or certain medical conditions.

Mild skin irritation, redness, itching, blistering, or allergic reactions can occur. Remove the tape promptly if you develop itching, burning, rash, swelling, pain, or skin changes.

Our Approach

At One Stop Rehab, kinesio taping may be used to complement active care. If it provides meaningful improvement in comfort or movement, we may use it to help you participate more fully in strengthening, mobility work, balance training, work tasks, or sport-specific rehabilitation.

For example, tape may be used temporarily for a runner with knee discomfort while the larger treatment plan addresses hip and leg strength, running mechanics, training volume, mobility, and recovery habits.
